  1. SHUTTER INIT II

  3. The original Shutter INIT didn't do much; it rebooted the computer upon
  4. startup, thereby initiating a cycle of bootup-shutdown-bootup-shutdown, 
  5. on and on, until the victim finally figured out to boot up off another
  6. disk.

  8. Shutter INIT II is a bit more sophisticated.  Instead of rebooting upon
  9. startup, every five minutes it calls an ExitToShell.  ExitToShell simply
  10. kicks out of the program you're running, right back to the Finder, but it's
  11. direct so there's no "Do you wish to save BLAH.DOC?" or something.  If
  12. you're trying to work on something, it gets darn annoying.

  14. For some reason the code implemented into memory upon startup also seems
  15. to interfere with other operations; for instance, redraws slow, or even
  16. skip, their calls.  This hasn't been extensively beta-tested.

  18. If you wish to install Shutter INIT II within the victim's System file
  19. (for more discreet sabotage) with ResEdit or such, you must not only copy
  20. the "INIT" resource but the "KILL" resource as well....

  22. TECHNICAL GUNK:

  24. Shutter INIT II works by installing the code in the "KILL" resource into
  25. memory and passing a VBL handle to it.  It's set for 18000 60ths of a 
  26. second.

  28. Concievably, you could write your own "KILL" resource and replace mine
  29. with it; in the future expect to see "KILL" plug-ins of a sort...

  31. SHUTTER HISTORY: (what little there is of it)

  33. Shutter INIT (original) was born as a demo of the ShutDownStart call when
  34. I was [more of] a fledgling Pascal programmer.  It was stupid and corny and
  35. only used a couple of times.  Someone I know also sent it up to GEnie and
  36. they (surprisingly) accepted it....

  38. Shutter INIT II was born mainly as a demo of the Verticle Retrace Manager
  39. now that I am only a semi-fledgling Pascal programmer.  It is much more
  40. sophisticated than Shutter INIT (original) but is still stupid and corny.
  41. We'll see about its usage...

  43. Shutter III will no longer be a trojan but a full-blown virus.  I'm working
  44. on it at the moment, it's tougher than you think.  Bleah.  It'll probably
  45. be configurable or something, sort of a mercenary virus....
